Initial Meaning/Initial Response - this is the kids' response to a text after the initial read.
Then we dig deeper and break apart the text. We want to look closely at the author's purpose, reasoning for words used, and see what strategies we need to use in order to understand what's written between the lines.

As of late.....
Today, I sent home another copy of the Thinking Stems. In September I sent home an almost identical letter, but it stated which strategies we covered during August and September. Our kids have covered all of the comprehension strategies and we are in a constant mode of using many of the strategies while we read. The hope is that the students will independently use these strategies while reading text.
This evening you will also see the 120 Chart in your child's folder. Students should be able to read, write, and represent numbers 0-120.
The 120 Chart is a tool that can help the students with problem solving and skip counting.
